Yabadabadoo!

Hi!
I am updating this blog solely because I am at home and not doing much. Blogging amongst most of my friends seems these days like a past dated pastime. Whilst at one time it seems to be much the in thing. How times have changed and people move on in different directions. I don't seem to even hang out with those friends these days. Spending most of my time at home. But there of course reasons for that.

So what has been happening lately?
  • Joe the 9-5 man: I am really liking working at G.E. I guess for most part, I am learning new things, I get to dress up when I go to work and I get to meet new people. It's great. I have been waiting a long time for this and am going to grab this opportunity with both hands.
  • Uni: Last year to go and from what I have been experiencing of late, it's going to take a whole lot of time management and planning for me to finish. The 9-5 really takes it out of me on a mental level in that because I am learning new things, by the time I get home, study is the last thing on my mind. Going to the gym and physically exerting myself is at thoughtless and often mindless effort but getting in a couple of hours of studying per night is stretching it!
  •  Turning into a pig:  Working the new job has made my appetite increase 10 fold! And I don't know why! Most of you know what my appetite is on a normal basis and now it's just ridiculous. I am really going to have to cut back to avoid turning into a real pig. Also, coffee intake has increased in proportion to food intake!
  • Lack of exercise! Am feeling relatively unfit due to the above and because the db season is over. Am going to try and join OC soon but am really struggling on the financial level because I just paid some of my uni fees! And yes, am suffering from withdrawl symptoms.
  • Home boy: Have been a real hermit and not really seeing anyone. Which on one hand is a good thing as I don't have time! Work 9-5 mondays to fridays and catch up on sleep on weekends! Ohkay so I lie. There is time to fit in some catch up time.

Laters!

Entering Hermitville..

I think I will blog every few days or so. It just not probable for me to blog everyday, but come on, be realistic, things of interest do not always happen daily. Well to me anyway..

Friday:
Turned out to be a real shit kicker of a day. It did not start out well at all. I woke up late after snoozing it one too many times and decided to drive to work at 6am. So, started late. Then totally forgot that I was supposed to drive the car into the all day parking station at 8pm and got a $125 fine. Serves me right for not waking up early. The rest of the day got from bad to worse as there was a miscommunication for the 2 till 7 shift and so no one showed up. A rather expensive and testing day. If I had hair I would have pulled it out. Lucky I shaved it.

Note to self: WAKE UP!

Saturday:
Was a good day for me for some reason. And the team can vouch for me on that one. I had a real spring in my step. The session was great and I felt good at training also. Must have put in a lot though as I crashed out straight after I got home and by the time I awoke it was dinner time! Haha..

Sunday:
Had to work today. Was cruisy and chilled out. No wokkas here.

I've worked 5 full shifts this week which is quite a lot but I need the cash. I am totally flat broke after paying off my own fees this semester. But it's all good because I feel great about not having to burden my parents. Besides now they are in Adelaide and my Dad ain't earning mega bucks no more it's important I put in some of the load.

So anyway, have officially entered Hermitville. I have cleared the study room and that is where I will reside for the rest of the year. It has often been a vice of mine to procrastinate whatever I am suppose to be doing to go out with friends but I non-officially didn't go to Clint's dinner invite the other night. Trust me, it took a lot of will power on my behalf not to go.

Back..

New year starts now..

Let's put it this way after the highs of 2004 it was definately the lows of 2005. Nothing possible slightly eventful happened last year, hence there will be no blog of reflection, no blog of rehashment, no blog at all. However, 2005 dragged into January of 2006 and as such was a terrible way to usher in the new year.

Hence, why my 2006 will start this month. I have finally managed to clear the parasites of 2005 still attached into 2006 and have managed to unheave some issues. There are still a couple that are dragging but they are to be resolved soon.

Much is planned for 2006 and I plan to achieve them.

To Be Continued..

Paddle Love..

It;s just past 12am and I have to get up at 4:30am tomorrow for work but just thought I'd post a quick blog on paddling..

Today reminded me why I love dragonboating in the first place. The competition. Today we had team time trials where we paddle about 150 m, with a counter balance and a steer. That's it, it's just you and the boat. We had two boats so we could race off against another team mate, and to be honest, it was fantastic.

Funny enough we were so close to calling it off because that morning I was woken up by thunder and lightning and a whole lot of rain. It cleared by the time we got there and turned out to be a bright and shiny day!

I missed the last time trials because of my bad back and I hadn't done a time trial in almost a year and a half since preparation for Shanghai in 2004. Mind you the whole week I was having butterflys of nervousness as I didn't know how I would do. But as always I enjoy a challenge and especially when I was racing off against Charlie (our most recent rep on the Oz side!).

First time on the my right was 1:12 and on the left was 1:19. I narrowly beat Charlie by 2 seconds on the first one and he beat me by a second on the next one. It was great. I miss this sort of stuff. The reason for the 7 seconds discrepancy was that conditions change dramatically after 10, when there is tidal changes and more activity on the water.

It's a shame that Ray, another challenger for top paddler was not present to provide even more competiiton. But the stakes are high! We have set the bench mark. Hoping to be around the 1:05 mark for the next one!

Night!

Another year over, and new one just begun..

Ah,
I guess it is time to reflect on the year gone past again. But I think I shall await the new year for that blog. Not that much has happened this year that warrants much attention.

However, I think this time I shall actually reflect on happenings since last blog or any other crap that happens to wander into my field of thought:

  • Race Riots: I really cannot believe that this would actually happen in Australia. I consider Australia home and for such a thing to happen in our own back yard I thought would have been unheard of. I have had various often heated discussions (on my part) about this but let's just say, I am not a very happy chappy.
  • A.C. Nielsen over: Yes, sad to say my short lived foray into marketing research ended early December. I truly enjoyed the experience of working in a new environment, learning new things and meeting new people and best of all having to dress up to go to work. It wasn't no suit and tie but business casual for me is a step up from shorts and polo top I wear at the 'Bux (not to say I didn't enjoy that either!)
  • Back at the Bux: Unfortunately I am back there, but things seemed to have gotten better and it is somewhat enjoyable to be back. I guess also the hiring of new people (chicks) means I get to know them.
  • Another year nearly GOOOONNEEE! So fast I truly don't know where it's gone to. Have to start making new plans and lists for 2006 as is my tradition. Looking forward to 2006 as 2005 was quite boring! Haha..
  • Frustrations with Naga: At the moment am increasingly frustrated with lack of commitment of the team. I know they are not me and enjoy paddling with a passion but still! Am also increasingly worried that our team is slowly dwindling into extinction.
  • Losing my neck again: Every season I know when I am starting to get bigger when I once again lose my neck and become NONECKJOE. For some reason, my traps bear the brunt of all my working out and I am soon to be a Petro Civinoceva! HAHA..

That's about it really..

It's a weird world we live in..

There I was going to do a daily recap, but subsequently other things happened today that in terms of the rest of the shit I do, was much more interesting:

What goes around comes around!

Today at the supermarket, an old grandpa and his toddler grandchild were about to check out. The Grandpa was carrying the toddler and the sitting pram that was with them was practically overwhelmed with food. There was literally bags strung on it everywhere. I was thinking what a disaster waiting to happen. And happen it did. In the instant that I had thought that, over it went spilling groceries everywhere.

I straight away started picking up some of the groceries as the Grandpa had his hands full with the toddler. I think he was quite surprised that I, an Asian was doing such things. I know this is quite the sweeping stereotype but Asians have a reputation of looking in the other direciton when something happens.

Anyway, just now I was standing in line to pay for a ticket when an elderly gentleman gave me his daytripper ticket (still valid for that day). So hence, what goes around comes around. I was very happy not to have to pay for a ticket. And it feels good to have done something and received something in return.

Old Chinese Films..

Have you seen those old chinese comedy kung fu films where there are guards posted outside the gate but when you get closer they are actually sleeping with their eyes open? Just now on the train there was an old guy just like that. Not both eyes (only one) but that one eye seemed to be slightly open. I definately know he was a sleep because I could hear him snoring. I wonder if he actually sees anything when he is sleeping.

Fully Sikh..

Also on the train was a Sikh. You know those guys from India with the turban and ever growing beard? Anyway, reason I mention it is because back in highschool in Malaysia I had a Sikh mate and we used to crash at his house. Every night he used to wash his long hair and put coconut oil in it. Anyway reason I mention it is that he did was allowed to shave but this guy on the train was a full sikh (GET IT? FULL SIKH! Haha..)

As I was watching him he was tweaking away at his moustache and he had this implement (looked like a small metal rod), that he used to push his hair into his cap. Not only that but I reckon he brushes his beard, this guy was so hairy that his whole cheek was covered in hair. Copious amonts of grooming between Strathfield and Deniston. (Reminds me of those baboons on National Geographic picking tics off each other!).

Ohkay time for bed!

Working early tomorow at the Bux..

Joe

Yeah Baby..

Naga Spirit...Lives..
Yesterday we had our 2nd race event at Penrith. Splash and Dadh 200m. I reckon it was doomed from the start. Why?
  • They changed from the Sunday to a Saturday: This caused an uproar to begin with as they had announced that the event was to be held on a Sunday right from the very start of the season. Then suddenly 2 weeks prior to the event it gets changed to Saturday! What de! To book a venue such as the SIRC they would have needed to book it months in advance not just weeks. Real con job I reckon.
  • M4 accident prior to arrival: A lot of our guys and undoubtedly everyone else got had to make a long detour to get there when there was an accident at the start of the M4. Hence, everyone was real crabby when they arrived because they had to park on the other side and walk over.
  • No pontoons: SIRC center has pontoon starts which are changeble from the 500m to 200m mark. They somehow forgot that we wanted it and hence we didn't have it till right at tne end. Somehow forgot? I demand a refund man. Ridiculous! By the way, at the end they only raced like 2 heats on it!
  • Hellish weather: It was blowing a typhoon right from the start of the day at 7:45am when we got there. It did not settle down at all, as a matter of fact, I think it got worse.
  • Debacle in organisation city: Sloths, being a hugely massive club with at least 150 people somehow could not get their act together. They sent out the invites the week before the race on a wednesday and demanded entry by friday. Now for a club that has demanded professionalism in the sport, I thought that was ratehr unprofessional. To make that worse, they release the preliminary race draw on a wednesday and the final one on a friday. Great! Gives the rest of us a lot of time to organise ourselves don't it! But then again, race draw went to shits anyway!
  • Took the whole day before they realised it was over! We might have just paddled in a river instead of paying an additional $3 per head to have it there. We sat around for at least 2 hours waiting.

But anyway, enough complaining about how it was shit. This is the reason why it was good!

  • NAGA SPIRIT IS BACK BABY! We won the 1st heat and came 2nd in the 2nd heat. It has taken us a while but I feel this is the start of something great! It has taken us 2 seasons to get this far! But it was well worth it. I was so in shock to come 1st I didn't even celebrate! But I so did when we came 2nd! Weird ain't it.

Would also like to make special mention to REBECCA LAU 'WALAU' for making a special appearance and helping beef us up! Cos you're all beef baby!

Had some photos, but you know me. It takes forever for me to get it together. And now, my hdd is full of shit which I must back up first! Ohwells, maybe next time!

YEAH BABY!

Partner Night Out..Tuesday..

S'bucks Tradition..

Once in a while when we can organise it we go out on a town. Meaning we leave some other poor saps from other stores to run ours whilst we paint the town red. And indeed it was red a sea of Johnny Walker RED LABEL..

We started off at this pretty kewl Korean place in Burlington Plaza and then made our way to K2 kareoke joint. So asian. We obviously brought drinks and before we knew it we were all plastered. I will let the pictures say more.

Let's just say I didn't make it home that night, I called in sick at work the next day, spent the whole day in bed and dragonboat training was somewhat intolerable. I was living in seedy city for the whole of Wednesday.

But it was fun, as I don't often hang out with the guys from work for the sheer reason that they only know of two things, drinking and kareoke! Plus of course the added fact I live in woop woop!

Haha..

The Pain..oh the Pain..

Today is officially Pain day..

Yes, the day after the adventure race. And my lower body is absolutely throbbing. Thighs, calves, ankles you name it, it's swollen toight and blardee painfull. I haven't been this wrecked in a long long time. Possible even dating back to my first dragonboat session in 2000. Everytime I stopped on a train or a bus, I was cramping. I even had a double calf cramp on the way to Climb fit in St. Leonards and back to the station!

I even spent $60 on the cab home i was that much in pain. Also in part due to cityrail being f**ked again and I couldn't bear getting on and off buses!

But it was good fun and I got to know Cherie. Cherie, you are an absolutely machine! If it wasn't for you I think I'd be dragging my ass way behind! Next time if we enter together, I am definately training for a good month beforehand. Give me a paddle of any sort and I can't go wrong!

It was also fun to navigate the city to places, I must say embarassingly I haven't been to eventhough I've been here near 9 years now. At least I know where to bring people now! Haha. And the good part? We got photos to prove it! So sweet. We will be getting a disc with our photos on it soon.

It was however not good fun to do it in the rain. I was praying the rain would clear and the sun would come out. But did it? NO! Instead it got worse! And stupid me, did not bring any spare clothes to save travelling weight!

Really in the end it was a matter of planning your course in the most efficient manner possible and using the resources you have at hand. We met an old lady on the bus who was kind enough to tell us a whole lot of the places. Hehe..and that was at the start of the race. We so thought we had the advantage.

We came 36th in the mixed category and 70th overall out of a field of 116 for a time of 5:32. Not bad I guess. I was a bit dissapointed and am hell bent on doing better next time. You know me! Think Cherie was also dissapointed but she didn't say so! But I was also just happy to participate and had fun. Especially since this is my first time. I am soo unfit off the water!

I tell you I was never so happy to see the finishing line in my life!

Photos to come when I get off my ass to put them up!

Wax on Wax Off!

On a rather sad note: Pat Morita or Mr Miyagi as he was known in the Karate Kid movies, passed away yesterday ages 73.

Further details:

I  had just been watching Karate Kid parts one and two on wednesday and thursday night. So it's real sad that he passed away, but at least he passed away of natural causes.

Some classic quotes from the movies:

Daniel: Wouldn't a fly swatter be easier?
Miyagi: Man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything.
Daniel: Ever catch one?
Miyagi: Not yet.

Daniel: You could have killed him, couldn't you?
Mr. Miyagi: Aiy.
Daniel: Well, Why didn't you?
Mr. Miyagi: Because Daniel, for man with no forgiveness in heart, life worse punishment than death.

Miyagi: Daniel-san, never put passion before principle. Even if win, you lose.

Daniel: You think you could break a log like that?
Miyagi: Don't know. Never been attacked by a tree.
R.I.P Mr.Miyagi!

Excitement Plus...

Urban Max Challenge!

Tomorrow me and Cherie set course to conquer Sydney. The Urban Max challenge is a wannabe 'Amazing Race' but set in Sydney and the surrounding suburbs. I've always wanted to do such a challenge as the show is one of my favourites, even though the Americans on it are not so. Apparently, Cherie is an old hand at these kind of challenges. It shurely will be interesting.

Mainly because I don't know Cherie that well. Actually as a matter of fact, I don't think I've had a conversation with her. But according to her, she is a wanted if 'The Amazing Race' ever excepted overseas applications. So, at the end of this race, we could either be good friends or bitter enemies. I am hoping for the latter.

But anyway. Excitement plus. I'll bring my camera for added effect. Hope the weather holds up, apparently we are supposed to be having showers till next Friday. But look at today. Forecasted for afternoon showers but instead we got 30 degree fine day. Fingers crossed!

Back is BACK!

Weekend was fabulous!

Why? Only for the one reason that I finally returned to paddling. After being out for 5 weeks with back problems to be back on the water was sheer bliss. Possible even orgasmic.

I hate feeling incapacitated as a result of injury. I felt like life lacked any real purpose if I wasn't on the water. Subsequently, I think that was the root of my back problem in the first place. The battle was more psychological rather than physical. In previous years when I had a bad back, I just paddled through the pain and it dissapeared sooner rather than later. This year it was the opposite. I was cautious. And cautious led to being laid off for 5 weeks.

It is also just like the weird headaches that I had prior to my exams last year. I just kept on thinking of the terrible things that it could possible be and that extended it's vacation in my head. The sooner I stopped thinking about it and focused on being positive the fater it got rid of itself.

Anyway..

It was good to be back. I am so unfit it's not funny. Have a 2 week plan to get back into the condition before the race on the 3rd of December which involves aerobic exercise everyday. The plan is 'Get Joe Fit Fast Fortnight!'. Haha..We'll see how we go. Kind of like my own personal bootcamp. Today I did 8:45 on the concept 2 rowing machine for 2km. Will be trying to beat that on Thursday.

Sunday I was in agony. Pain all over my body. But you know me. I enjoy it, especially when it's not the kind of pain that cripples, rather the kind of pain you get from over exerting your body! Haha.. it was robot Joe for the whole day at work!

Monday was a real surprise on the part of our the team. We have been trying to get the guys to come to Monday trainings now for a good part of a month and finally it became a reality. Not only that but a full 19 people showed up. Totally amazing! Not only that but the 3 new guys from the weekend were there too. So shame shame for those oldies who couldn't make it.

Was a real slogg for me. Again! Haha..

That's about it really. Haven't gotten paid from A.C. Nielsen yet. Will check tomorrow. I gave them my ING account so maybe that's why.

Joe

P.S. New chicks at work. I think I am actually enjoying trainning or coaching people. Makes me feel good that people are learning something off me, especially when they put it into practice. Hope the rest of the supervisors don't undo all my hard work.

Ohkay here we go..

I have finally found the motivation to write again after yesterday crashing explorer debacle. So this time I have decided to keep it short and sweet. So let's get on with it!
  1. Go Australia! Viduka, no hesitation next time, Swartzer and Kewell are legends! Here come the Aussies! I think this will be a remarkable turnaround for soccer in Australia. Was a very proud moment after all the shit we have been through from the cricket and the union.
  2. Going back to training tomorrow. Testing out my back. Hope it fares well.
  3. Being going gangbusters at the gym. Since no training have to keep myself motivated for the comeback somehow.
  4. A.C. Nielsen is such a cruisy job. I hope they keep me on after this short 1 month stint. I really want to leave S'bucks. I will be stuck there if they do not offer me a position.
  5. Uni has started again. But this time because I have 2 supplementary exams, I only have to do 2 subjects this semester. Which is great because it will make the summer less tedious.
  6. I want to go on holidays. Many numerous friends are on working holidays, on real holidays or just came back from holidays.
  7. Excitement. Urban Max challenge on next weekend. Partnering Cherie to do it. We will either be mad friends or crazy enemies out of it.
  8. Relos from M'sia are here. Meaning, I have to be a good boy! Haha..Not!
  9. 2005 nearly at an end. Must start planning my goals for 2006.
  10. Need a new computer before this ones goes the way of the dodo.

HOT HOT HOT!

Only a few good things happened to me today.

1. I found out which bus takes me directly to the front door of A.C. Nielsen. Yay for the 295, otherwise which I would have had to walk from Macq Center which is a good 15-20 minutes walk away. 1st day of work I turned up drencehd in sweat..

2. I only have to do 2 subjects over Summer semester. I managed to pass 2 in the last and fail one and 1 other I have a supplementary exam for. From the previous semester before that I also have a supp exam so hence only needing to do 2 subjects. I will have to study for them in January but passing them means I pass the course and they incur no cost! So this sem, only paying 2 subjects and less stress since I have already done it but need minimal marks to pass!

3. In 3 days I have already by passed the other phleb. I am now doing work the normal people in my office are doing. Even though I do feel a tinge of guilt, bygones! Haha, may the best man win. ME! I have also put in the word that I would like to stay on after the month ends. And the boss lady (I may have to sleep with her! :P) said she will see how it goes!

Besides that..

1. The fucking bus was late. Meant for 3:30pm it didn't arrive till an hour later. I was dying in the heat. Black skin so attracts more heat! I was fuuuming. I have Sydney government transport! With increasing fuel prices, how are we supposed to be reliant on public transport when it doesn't work!

2. Had a crappy 2 hour starbucks meeting. Lucky I get paid for it and get to sample new foods. My district manager has the worst freakin nasally voice with a NZ accent. Thank god she didn't do much speaking but when she did, I almost tried to punch myself out. 2 hours of agony..Lucky the gang from work was there which made it a little bearable!

3. Public transport sucks x2! After the meeting and about to go home, I find out there is trackwork! Fark! To make matters worse, I get stuck on the city circle line back to central, which gets stopped in between st.james and museum for 20 minutes! Finally get home at 12:15pm, meeting ended at 10pm!

4.  Have an annoying gay bloke in the dept next door. So camp its not funny. You know the kind, a feminine man. I nearly choked myself everytime I heard his voice. Was so seriously wanting to tell him to shut the fuck up!

New beginnings..

Bye Bye Blogger..Hello MSN Spaces..

Now don't get me wrong, I liked blogger, but as with all things, things change. New things come along, often for the better and it often calls for leaving the old behind! So, hence forth cya blogger! It was nice knowing you. We had fun but it's time to move on.

Besides, MSN spaces is so much kewler, and I can store photo albums on here aswell!

So what's new in my world?

Well, I recently got a job at A.C. Nielsen, the marketing research company. I initially thought I was going to be here for three months, but alas, I misread the company e-mail and I will only be here for a month. But pay is great, I start work at 10 and end at 3, and I don't have to put up with nasty customers (not that there were that many, you all know what I look like!). But, yes, there is a catch, the job is mundane and practically mind numbing, but then again I said that about Starbucks.

I am basically a phleb. You say sit, and I sit. Woof! But really I have no complaints. It offers an interesting perspective in working environment. I can't believe the chicks here dress up so meticulously only to sit in front of a computer screen for 8 hours everyday. But I guess what ever get's you going.

I overheard a conversation saying how tired they were from working there. The realisation was that, man, some people honestly do not know how hard work is till they do manual labour. I wanted to pipe up but as a phleb it isn't my place to say such things. Maybe later!

So anyhow, the job is till early December, from which I will once again return to the mundane existance of Starbucks World. My early intent (before re-reading e-mail and finding out I can't read properly) was to impress with hardworking efforts and land myself a full time/part time position there. We will see how that goes eh?

I also realised on Monday that I have no nice shirts to wear! Cripes and no money till Thursday! That really sucks ass. Cos you know and I know that I like to look HOT! Haha..

Joe Out!
